🍃 Sencha & Stillness: Finding Peace in the Wait
Share
There’s a beautiful Japanese idiom — 一日千秋 (Ichinichi-senshū) — meaning “one day feels like a thousand autumns.” It describes that ache of waiting, but also reminds us of something deeper: patience itself is an art.
Today, I spent my afternoon with a simple pleasure — a cup (well, five cups) of sencha.
This tea is one of my favorites because it changes with every pour. By re-steeping the same leaves 4–5 times — using hotter water and shorter steeps — the flavor unfolds like a quiet story of resilience and calm. 🍵
Next to me, a hand-crafted kokedama from @sizensya — a moss ball flower arrangement that captures the essence of wabi-sabi, the beauty in imperfection and impermanence.
When we slow down enough to notice, the small things — a sip of tea, a soft breeze, the shift of light — remind us that we are always right on time.
How to brew Sencha:
1 tsp tea per 8 oz water (175–180°F / 79–82°C), steep 60–90 sec.
Re-steep up to 4–5 times with slightly hotter water and shorter infusions for a deeper flavor experience.
