A Mother’s Day Tea in Light
Share
Komorebi (木漏れ日) — the soft phenomenon of sunlight filtering through the trees.
This Mother’s Day, that feeling became something we could step into.
In collaboration with Chef Toru Masai, Flowering Waters hosted two intimate afternoon tea sessions, welcoming a total of twenty guests into a quiet, thoughtfully curated experience centered around Japanese tea and seasonal expression.
Each guest was guided through a progression of four Japanese teas, paired with a collection of savory and sweet offerings inspired by both traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern interpretation.
We were honored to feature:
• Handcrafted wagashi by Tokaragashi — delicate, seasonal, and deeply expressive
• Loco-style mochi creations from Keola Sweets — a warm nod to Hawaii roots
• Dishwasher-safe chopsticks from Yuzu Marché — blending function with beauty
• Chawans generously lent by the Urasenkei East-West Chanoyu Center — allowing guests to experience the presence and form of true tea practice
The atmosphere was intentionally intimate.
Soft.
Unrushed.
A space where tea could be felt, not just consumed.
More than anything, Komorebi became a reminder:
That beauty lives in small gatherings.
In thoughtful details.
In shared moments that cannot be repeated.
To everyone who attended — thank you.
It was an honor to share tea with you.
More to come.
