Forest Fairy Tea Time

Forest Fairy Tea Time

Yesterday after chadō practice, my sensei gifted me homemade wagashi.

A small gesture, but one that completely transformed my next tea sessions ahead

The confection felt so emblematic of early summer — delicate, fleeting, breezy-beautiful — and paired perfectly with a bowl of my Jyoraku usucha.

As I sat there preparing tea, I had a funny thought:

Sometimes I really do feel like a little forest fairy 😂🧚♀️

Wandering around drinking matcha, collecting beautiful objects, admiring flowers, and eating exquisite sweets.

And for real: I think there’s something healthy about leaning into that feeling.

Not necessarily escapism —
but softness. Real softness.

Tea has taught me that life becomes richer when we intentionally notice small things.

The texture of a wagashi.
The scent of bamboo.
The sound of whisking.
The movement of light through leaves. (komoreibi)

Remember: This exact moment will never exist again.

Which is why even a simple solo tea session can feel sacred.

Perhaps joy doesn’t always arrive through grand accomplishments.

Sometimes it quietly appears in the form of:
a handmade sweet,
a bowl of matcha,
and a little imagination.

So this summer, I’m leaning further into beauty, softness, creativity, and peace.

I hope you do too 🌿💚🍵🌼✨🦋
