Honoring Connections Through Tea: A Teatime with My Mentor

Honoring Connections Through Tea: A Teatime with My Mentor

Some moments feel timeless. Today, I had the joy of sharing a simple bowl of Jyoraku Matcha with my mentor — someone who has guided, supported, and inspired me in countless ways.

In Japan, tea has always been more than a drink — it is a practice of connection, mindfulness, and gratitude. Sitting together, whisking bright green matcha, and sipping slowly reminded me of the importance of intentionally creating space to honor our relationships.

How to Make Classic Jyoraku Matcha:

(1) Seive 2g of Jyoraku Matcha.

(2) Add about ¼ cup of water at 165°F.

(3) Whisk until smooth and frothy.

(4) Enjoy slowly, allowing tea to connect body, mind, and spirit — and if you’re lucky, share that moment with someone you love.

As the Japanese idiom says, 「一期一会」(ichigo ichie)one time, one meeting. Each encounter is unique and should be cherished as if it will never come again.

I left today’s teatime with a peaceful heart, grateful for the earth angels in my life and reminded that life’s richness often lies in these simple, shared rituals.
