Kukicha, Cherries, and Bathtub Ideation: A Self-Care Ritual
Share
In our fast-paced world, self-care can feel like a luxury. But in truth, it’s a necessity. Tonight’s ritual was simple yet powerful: a cup of kukicha, a handful of sweet cherries, and a warm bathtub where my thoughts could wander freely.
Kukicha, a Japanese tea made from stems and leaves, has a naturally toasty flavor and is low in caffeine—perfect for calming the body and steadying the mind before rest. Pairing it with an intentional act of self-love transforms an ordinary evening into a space for peace and creativity. I love and drink kukicha even in the early evenings because there isn't as much caffeine, making it a more "chill out" experience.
The Japanese idiom 「自愛は智慧の始まり」— Self-love is the beginning of wisdom—reminds us that nurturing ourselves is the foundation of all growth.
So tonight, I give myself permission to reset, reflect, and restore. May you also carve out your own rituals of peace and self-love.
Quick brew guide: use 2 grams of Kukicha tea per 6-8 oz of water at 158-176°F (70-80°C) for 30sec-1 minute.
