Sakura Matsuri | A Weekend of Tea and Tradition

Sakura Matsuri | A Weekend of Tea and Tradition

This weekend, Flowering Waters will be at Sakura Matsuri — the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival at Seattle Center.

📅 April 10–12 (I will be there 11-12)
⏰ 11AM–5PM

This festival is one of Seattle Center’s longest-running cultural celebrations, created to deepen understanding and share Japanese and Japanese American culture through performance, art, food, and community.

Rooted in the tradition of hanami — the appreciation of cherry blossoms — it serves as a reminder to pause and honor the fleeting nature of life.

At the festival, Flowering Waters will be offering a more traditional tea experience:

• Hand-whisked matcha (ippuku)
• Wagashi + matcha pairings

There will also be tea ceremony demonstrations, with opportunities to learn how to whisk a proper bowl of usucha in the Urasenkei style.

Tokaragashi’s seasonal wagashi offerings will be announced tomorrow.

If you find yourself there, come take a moment for tea.
