The 1/4 Rule: Luxury Tea Without the Stress
Share
Not everyone owns a temperature reader — and honestly, you don’t need one.
My 1/4 Rule is how I brew beautiful Japanese loose-leaf tea anywhere, without overthinking or overcooking the leaves.
Here’s how it works:
Fill your vessel — literally any vessel — about ¼ with room-temperature water, then top it off with boiling water. This naturally brings the temperature down into the ideal brewing range (around 165–180°F).
Add one heaping tablespoon of loose-leaf tea, steep for 30–60 seconds, strain, and enjoy.
In this moment, I’m drinking Genmai-Matcha — an elevated version of traditional genmaicha, blended with matcha powder for added depth, body, and softness.
This is my go-to when serving tea at friends’ houses or on the go. I still get the luxury of high-quality tea — without stressing about precision or cooking the benefits out.
Good tea should feel supportive, not stressful.
