Welcoming September with Zen Wisdom: 色即是空, 空即是色

Welcoming September with Zen Wisdom: 色即是空, 空即是色

As I turned the page on my @karhustudioskyoto calendar, these words greeted me:

“Color is empty, empty is color.”

In Buddhism, emptiness (shunyata) isn’t a void but an abundance of possibility, a reminder that everything is interconnected. Dharma Moon describes it as “a full, lush richness untouched by our limiting perceptions.”

And here’s another poetic interpretation that stopped me in my tracks:

“Passion is nothing, empty is love.”

It makes sense, doesn’t it? Passion burns bright and fast, but love—the kind that exists beyond clinging—is born from spaciousness. From emptiness, everything flows.

So as we step into September, let this be your mantra:

Make space. Let go. Begin again.
