Welcoming the Lunar New Year with Tea at Kobo
Share
The Lunar New Year marks a time of renewal — a moment to gather with community, reflect on the past year, and welcome the possibilities of the one ahead.
To celebrate, Flowering Waters will be popping up at Kobo Seattle, alongside food vendors and local artists in a festive gathering honoring the season.
Kobo has long been a beloved space in Seattle’s International District, known for its thoughtfully curated selection of art, fine crafts, and design from Japan and the Pacific Northwest. It feels like the perfect place to welcome the new year with tea.
At the pop-up, Flowering Waters will be serving:
• Hand-whisked ceremonial matcha
• Matcha lattes
• Hojicha lattes
• Classic loose leaf teas
One of the highlights of the event will be the preparation of matcha in the traditional way — whisked by hand into a smooth, vibrant bowl.
For those who want to experience matcha in its most authentic form, we’re offering a special gesture:
Purchase a 30g tin of our Premium Ceremonial Grade Jyoraku Matcha and receive a complimentary ippuku — a bowl of hand-whisked matcha prepared in the traditional style.
In Japanese tea culture, ippuku simply means “a bowl of tea” or “a tea break,” but it also represents a moment of pause and presence.
What better way to welcome a new year than with a quiet bowl of tea?
We hope to see you there.
